SMILE eye surgery I had been thinking about getting lasik done for years. Last year I came across something called SMILE. I finally made the decision to do it and I am glad I did. Dr Corsini and his assistant Nancy were fantastic from start to finish. I live in Florida and was looking for SMILE surgery which was difficult to find as not many places perform it, but was also open to lasik. I was going to be in the NJ/PA area for my brother’s wedding and the holidays. I called many different places in several states. Some places I called felt very mechanical like a chain restaurant turn and burn mindset like I was just a number. Other places had people working there that didn’t seem like they wanted to be there or weren’t as knowledgeable from the first time they picked up the phone. That didn’t inspire confidence. When I first called, Nancy picked up the phone. I had many questions. When I say many, I mean a lot. Both Nancy and Dr Corsini answered them all. At Dr Corsini’s they were patient, kind, knowledgeable, friendly and felt like they genuinely cared. Of all the places I called I felt comfortable and confident with them. For me the convenience is nice, but the deciding factor of why I wanted it done was to be able to see in an emergency situation, especially after the recent hurricanes and tropical storms that hit my area, more volatile and random storms affecting my area from climate change and failing infrastructure, civil unrest and protests (concerns of chemical agents being used or detainment without being able to take my contacts out). About the surgery. I know, I know. Having your eyes cut open and lasers shot into them doesn’t sound like fun. The reality is during the procedure with the way it was set up I really couldn’t see what they were doing (almost like having a blindfold on and being able to see a little bit of light shine through) and barely felt anything. Dr Corsini talked you all the way through it. The surgery was quick and I only experienced some minor discomfort for a few minutes with no real pain. On top of that they played music of my choice while they did their thing. That was pretty cool. The biggest thing for me was some light sensitivity afterwards, nothing a pair of sunglasses and a nap couldn’t take care of. The recovery time was very quick. I could drive the next day. The aftercare was simple, some eye drops, don’t get water in your eyes, don’t rub your eyes, etc - basically follow some simple instructions. It’s been about 6 months and my vision is better than my old contact prescription. After so many years of wearing contacts my only issue now is breaking the habit, rather muscle memory of still acting like I have contacts in when I am in the shower, how I rub my eyes or going to bed with the thought of I have to take my contacts out for a second and realizing, no I don’t. If you have been thinking about getting it done or have been waiting, make the call. I highly recommend Dr Corsini. One last note, a plug for universal healthcare or medicare for all. While this is an elective surgery, we live in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. This surgery could change people’s lives for the better. This should be available or affordable for everyone along with other healthcare necessities in this country. There is no reason it shouldn’t be. It is a matter of choice and political will. I had LASIK surgery to correct my farsightedness after wearing contacts and glasses for years. I wanted to improve my distance vision for sports and everyday activities, even if that meant still needing reading glasses. I had also reached the point where I needed reading glasses while wearing contacts, so I decided to move forward with the procedure. Dr. Corsini was professional, knowledgeable, and reassuring throughout the entire process. He uses modern technology, and everything from scheduling to the procedure itself was smooth and easy. He also took the time to answer all of my questions and made sure I felt comfortable every step of the way, which I really appreciated. My distance vision is now 20/20, if not a little better. I still use reading glasses, but that was expected, and the overall improvement has been significant, a big upgrade from dealing with contacts. He offers a range of vision correction options, and I felt well informed and comfortable with the approach we chose. I had SMILE laser eye surgery with Dr. Corsini about two months ago, and I honestly couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. It’s truly AMAZING being able to see clearly all the time now. From the very beginning, he was incredibly helpful in guiding me through the decision-making process. I was initially leaning toward SMILE, and he took the time to measure my cornea’s depth and understand my eyes and then walk me through all my options so I felt fully informed and confident choosing what was best for me. I had Smile Surgery done to both of my eyes in October. The procedure went well and had a minor complication from it that was resolved after the first week checkup without any issue. My vision is great now and I love that I do not need glasses and am very pleased with the results.
